The nearest town is Nontron (around 5km away), with all the essential facilities you need ~ supermarkets, shops, doctors, pharmacies, schools, etc. A little further in the opposite direction is the picturesque and well known tourist town of Brantome, around 20 minutes away. The nearest city is Perigueux, which is the capital of the Dordogne. A great place for families is the Lac du Saint Estephe and there are lots of interesting villages, tourist attractions and leisure sites just waiting to be discovered.

Nontron

Nontron, Dordogne, Aquitaine About half-way between the market town of Piegut and Brantome the unusual town of Nontron is set high on a steep hill, overlooking the red slate roofs of the old houses in the narrow meandering streets below the town centre. Nontron is famous for the manufacture of knives and bellows. As well as providing all your daily shopping, schooling and medical needs, Nontron has a good selection of bars, restaurants and places of interest.

Brantome

Brantome, Dordogne, Aquitaine A favourite of tourists and residents of South West France, the beautiful town of Brantome, known as the Venice of the Perigord, is famous for its street cafes on the river Dronne and it's stunning chateau and abbey at the base of the sheer cliffs. Brantome also has a large selection of traditional french shops, a lovely park by the river with shady picnic areas and a fantastic Friday market. Time permitting, follow the river a little further south to the village of Bordeilles which claims some of the most stunning scenery in the Dordogne.

Perigueux

Perigueux, Dordogne, Aquitaine Right in the heart of the Dordogne and close to other interesting sites, Perigueux is a beautiful mix of medieval and renaissance architecture. There are attractive boulevards, and a region of streets lined with medieval houses that is a very pleasant place for a wander. Most 'action' in the town is focussed around the cathedral. The medieval town is a delight to visit, especially on market days (Wednesdays and Saturdays).

Lac du Saint Estephe

Lac du Saint Estephe, Dordogne, Aquitaine Ideal for families, the Lac du Saint Estephe on the outskirts of Nontron and surrounded by scenic woodland, offers excellent facilties for a family day out, with a large clean beach area, childrens' play area, restaurant and café secluded camping, fishing and plenty of walks. For the more adventurous there are watersports available in high season.

Piegut

Piegut Market, Dordogne, Aquitaine About 10 minutes further on from Nontron is the little village of Piegut which comes alive every Wednesday morning. People arrive from miles around to visit Piegut's famous market which sells eveything from home grown produce, clothes and bric-a-brac, to live poultry. After exploring the market, there are several bars and quaint coffee shops to rest your feet and quench your thirst. A must if you love fresh home-grown produce!
